Ok, before I begin rambling let me first tell you that this site does not (and will not) contain any info or reference to geckos. When I first began this web site I lived in Arizona which can also be considered gecko country...hence the name. I was new to the internet and had to come up with a name for my domain quickly (I was on the phone with a hosting company). Heck, at that point I didn't even know what a domain or username was. Well...I had to think fast and that's what I dreamed up in my tiny little mind and I did it almost immediately.
Gecko Country has been in existence since mid 1994. It began while I was living in Tucson, AZ, as a three page web site with a little reference to my service in Vietnam. Almost immediately I began receiving e-mail messages from Veterans. From there it grew to well over 300 pages. Heck, I had a page or site for pratically every issue you can think of. I even had a separate site (which was featured in a Japanese dog magazine in 1995) for my old faithful companion Max. Max was a somewhat spoiled German Shephard. I moved back to New York State in 2000 and trimmed down my web site to consist of my military pages, patriotic graphics and links pages. Then in August '08 I decided to retire from the web page stuff so Gecko Country was closed down for the first time in 14 years. Certainly not an easy decision as I have made some wonderful friends (veterans and otherwise) over that time span.
Recently while checking out my old server for a family member who wanted to change web servers, I found that they were offering a fall special with great pricing. Having had been with them for three years or more (and being very pleased with all aspects of their company) I decided to jump on the opportunity and signed back up with them. I guess it's just in my blood to run a web site. Again I will make changes but this time my site will consist not only of my graphics, military pages and links but I will be concentrating mostly on pictures. I'm a newbie amature photographer who has enjoyed taking pictures since I was a child but I never could quite grasp the concepts of light, camera settings and how it all worked together. Now that I'm a bit older...ok, A LOT older, I still don't understand it but now I'm giving it a serious try. I darn well better be with all the $$$ I have invested in camera equipment. Even though I take some nice shots of her, my wife still complains about all the money I spend on lenses and such. Isn't it just like a woman??? LOLBelow are links to the three most visited sites within my web site. Scroll down a bit and you will find a quick menu to each of my pages.
We hope you enjoy your visit.
